THE FASCINATING FRIED FOOD STUDY
715 Japanese car workers were studied in 2016 for: their moods and their fried food consumption
Why? Well, Japan has traditionally had strong rates of mental resilience but the diets were becoming more Westernised: consumption of fats and oils in 2010 in Japan was more than four times that in the 1950s
The study found people who consumed more fried foods were much more likely to develop low moods in their lifetime
According to Dr Uma Naidoo, Harvard’s authority on nutritional psychiatry - and Karmacist scientist - “fried foods are likely mood killers because they’re usually fried in unhealthy fats” which can impact both physical and mental wellbeing.
